January 2013 Class Notes
Elizabeth Helfrich ’58 was awarded the 2012 Lady Justice Award from The Monterey County Women Lawyers Association in December. Helfrich served in roles that broke the gender barrier of law practice in Monterey County, including being the first female lawyer in Salinas, California.
Tracy Green ’84 was elected to the board of directors of the Bay Area Bankruptcy Forum. Green is a partner at Wendel, Rosen, Black & Dean LLP in Oakland.
Carolyn Barbee ’85 is the relationship manager for West Coast clients at BMO Retirement Services. Barbee was previously relationship manager with TIAA-CREF.
Arthur Hartinger ’85 was featured in the Daily Journal’s Top 25 Municipal Lawyers in California for 2012. Hartinger is chair of the Labor and Employment Practice Group at the firm of Meyers Nave.
Allan Anderson ’87, partner at Ropers Majeski Kohn Bentley, has been selected as a fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America. Anderson is resident director at the firm’s Los Angeles office.
Kandis Westmore ’87, magistrate judge for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, was featured in The Recorder article “Don’t throw in the towel on discovery” in November 2012.
Eliza Rodrigues ’89 and Kelly Robbins ’91 were elected to the 2012-2013 board of governors executive committee of the California Women Lawyers. Rodrigues was appointed president and is the associate general counsel and ethics counsel at Sedgwick LLP in San Francisco. Robbins is principal at Robbins Family Law and focuses on family and divorce law.
Scott Patton ’90, deputy district attorney of the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, was appointed to a judgeship on the Alameda County Superior Court.
Kathy (Cheatum) Miller '91 was elected to the Petaluma City Council in November. She is a partner in Miller & Miller and practices civil litigation in Petaluma, California.
Robert Allard ’94, attorney and co-founder of Corsiglia McMahon & Allard, and Kimberly Guilfoyle ’94, Fox News Anchor and legal analyst, were featured in the Irish Voice’s Irish Legal 100 list.
Brendon Woods ’96 was elected public defender in Alameda County in December. He previously served as the senior assistant public defender for Alameda County.
David Lillevand ’98 has been named partner at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP. Lillevand’s practice includes transactions, private equity fund formation, public debt, and equity offerings.
Mark Appelbaum ’03 has been named partner at Jones Day. He is a member of the firm’s banking and finance practice.
Christine Hiler ’06, a member of Hanson Bridgett LLP’s Associate Committee, has been promoted to senior counsel in the firm’s Insurance Recovery Section.
Michael McQuinn ’12 has been appointed assistant to the general counsel at the California Department of Corporations. McQuinn was a law clerk at the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing and a legal extern at the Office of Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr.
